.2008-2009

This project was a unique Fred Meyer project, deviating from the prototype design I worked with the design team and the Owner to develop an exterior appearance that tied in with the rest of the new retail development.

I was part of the team for this project from early investigation through design, permitting and construction. I was involved in the work on nearly every aspect of this building, from coordinating internal team members, consultants and the construction documents, to running truck route analysis and detailing the stone veneer.

.2003-2005

The Southeast Island School District had many remote schools in decline. Naukati School, located on Prince of Wales Island, is a K-12 school with a population of 24-45 students. It replaced the series of temporary trailers and floating gym that had previously been used to hold classes and community events.

The building was designed to allow simple future expansion options and is clustered around a bright commons.

I worked together with other architects and landscape architects in the office, under supervision of the principal architect, from conceptual design to construction documents. I then was the primary person responsible for the construction administration and project closeout.

entry after renovation
After acquisition of a local chain of banks, Wells Fargo looked to update the look of the branch.  The renovation involved expansion of the entry, relocation of offices and teller line, and replacing finishes.  The construction work was completed under a single contract, with internal phasing so that the bank could maintain full services during the entire construction process.

I became involved in the design of the renovation near the latter part of several stops and starts in the design process.  I took over redesign based on the clients feedback and then continued the project through completion of construction administration.  I was project manager and worked closely with the client and consultants, as well as our interior design staff.

.2005 - 2007

The Chatham School District asked us to design the renovation of the interior and exterior of Gustavus School.  The School has about 20 to 30 students, K-12.  After conducting a condition survey, meetings with the school and community, it was determined that the school needed an exterior face lift and an improved science classroom and administration area, as well as electrical and mechanical upgrades.

I worked with principal architect to conduct the condition survey and meetings with the community and school for Phase 1.  Then I worked to develop the schematic design, then assisted staff and the principal through Design Development and Construction Documents.  I was the primary person responsible for Construction Administration and all parts of Phase 2, from the condition survey and meetings, through all Phases of design.  I finished up bidding and negotiations before leaving Juneau.

.2002 - 2006

Phase 1 renovated most of the interiors; Phase 2 renovated the exterior and the remaining interior spaces.  The main goal of the exterior remodel was to reinvigorate the look of the building, while maintaining the integrity of the original 1960’s design.  The interior of the building had many found spaces, used by students and staff in order to deal with overcrowding.  The challenge was to improve the learning environment within the existing framework.

I was involved from the condition survey to construction administration and warranty assistance on both phases.  I was the primary contact for the clients and consultants, the lead designer and the project manager.  At the beginning I worked closely with the principal architect, but by the end of the project I worked mostly independently.

.2001 - 2003

The Valdez Ferry Terminal was inspired by the new high tech ferry system introduced to Alaska.  It is a break from the traditional Alaskan wood structure ferry terminal.  The building is designed to reduce maintenance by using low maintenance materials and by providing a snow free (or reduced) zone under the large roof canopy.

I participated in all aspects of design for this project starting at Conceptual Design.  Just out of school, I relied a lot on the principal architect to coordinate other disciplines and technical details, but much of the design work, document development and construction administration were my responsibilities.
